April/May Screen & Stream
What's bride-to-be Zendaya's big secret? I'll never tell (unless you pay me)
A bit overdue? Sure, but here’s that combined April/May Screen & Stream update I promised a week ago. Blame James Bond 007 for the delay. And the fact that I finally cancelled my Alamo Season Pass at the end of March. Needless to say, I’ll likely be seeing a lot fewer films in theaters over the summer. Definitely fewer than last year. I find myself unenthused by most of the selections on this year’s Summer Movies Menu. The only ones I know I’ll shell out for are Spielberg’s Disclosure Day in early June and Nolan’s The Odyssey in mid-July, even though the trailers for both left me kinda limp. Perhaps my theatrical resolve will stiffen with some early summer surprises.
Until then, I’m adopting a wait-and-see approach for everything else. If it manages to achieve better than a 50 score on Metacritic (unlikely, from the looks of the godawful trailer), maybe I’ll even check in with my old childhood pal He-Man in the new Masters of the Universe. No promises though! And definitely no Grogu-related guarantees. In the meantime, here’s an eight-film breakdown of the movies I saw in the theater and at home during the last month and a half, with a little extra venue info included…
